Coming back to an empty parking spot is stressful. In Belgium a car is usually towed for blocking traffic, parking in a no-stopping zone, or sitting in a spot cleared for works or a market.
Find it first
Call the local police of the area where you parked. They log tows and will tell you which impound (fourrière / takeldienst) holds your car and how to retrieve it. Bring ID and proof you can drive the vehicle.
What it costs
You'll usually pay the tow fee plus daily storage, often on top of the parking fine itself. The longer you wait, the more storage adds up — collect it quickly.
Contesting an unjustified tow
- The signs banning parking were missing, hidden or freshly placed.
- Your car wasn't actually obstructing anything.
- Temporary work/event signs weren't posted with the legal notice period.
Pay to release the car first, then contest in writing to recover the costs — keep every receipt. Quitte helps you write that objection.
